Three Breath Bows

(For Emergency Stopping)

By Bill Menza

Stop where you are,
Whatever you are doing,
Join your palms,
Close your eyes,
Breathe in and out,
Three times
While bowing deeply
To your ancestors,
Loved ones,
Teachers,
Enemies,
Those suffering,
The Buddha inside.

(Repeat throughout the day)

Bill Menza, True Shore of Understanding, was a devoted student of Buddhism and an ordained member of the Order of Interbeing. He helped start meditation groups in New Hampshire, Maryland, and Virginia. An anthology of his poems, Dharma Rain Brings Flowers, will be published by The Whole Salamander: Athena Books this year. Bill sent this poem by email to his friend, Joan Kimball, on July 19, 2015. He passed away on July 21 at the age of 74, surrounded by family. He asked that memorial contributions be given to Amnesty International, Virginians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, Human Rights Watch, the Center for Constitutional Rights, or the Florida Mindfulness Community.
