Poem: Mother, Mother Earth

I left your belly and fell
into the womb of this world
my lungs like an umbilical cord,
river and loam the breast of earth
that feeds me for the few steps
between birth cry and death cry

Michael Morell, associate poetry editor of Schuylkill Valley Journal, lives in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
