In the hallway of my heart

a lamp is swaying a small
and gentle glowing deep inside a filigree

of shadows –
who lit the lamp?

how long has it been burning? –
perfumed night air eddies round

cicadas call relentless and
a screen door creaks

night air this pour of light
soaking a distance of parched fields
