In the midst of joy and ease,
hard blows hit me:
fear, disease.
When I’ve come deepest down,
trees and friends and grass support me. Great the joys we never own!
Suddenly the world is new!
When did the bell sound like this!
When was the sky this shade of blue!
But it’s easy to forget,
and withdraw in sour frowns—
until suddenly I let
all get lit up by a breath!
In the midst of joy and ease,
hard blows hit me:
fear, disease.
When I've come deepest down,
trees and friends and grass support me. Great the joys we never own!
Suddenly the world is new!
When did the bell sound like this!
When was the sky this shade of blue!
But it's easy to forget,
and withdraw in sour frowns—
until suddenly I let
all get lit up by a breath!
Bee and smile and cloud are now and true.
