Prison Practitioner Book Program

Our ongoing Prison Practitioner Book Program provides free books to people who would otherwise find it difficult or impossible to obtain access to materials on mindfulness, compassion, transformation, healing, and freedom. We receive dozens of personal handwritten letters each week from individuals suffering incarceration asking for resources on mindfulness and meditation.

We have been sending books and issues of The Mindfulness Bell to schools, community projects, and prisons for over 25 years. In the past, we have sent out more than 1,500 copies of books and magazines each year. Parallax Press and The Mindfulness Bell have donated more than 25,000 books and magazines since 1995.

By buying directly from Parallax Press, you help us to continue to publish essential teachings and pass the jewels of mindfulness to more people who need access to them. Thank you for your support.

If you would like to make a donation to support our mission, please do so by donating directly to the Thich Nhat Hanh Foundation.

Are you an organization dedicated to supporting incarcerated mindfulness/Buddhist practitioners?

We would love to partner with you! Please email prisonproject@parallax.org with the subject “Prison Mindfulness Partner” so that we can be in contact.

Ordering books for people experiencing incarceration

If you would like to place an order of books for incarcerated individuals, we are happy to support you. Please email prisonproject@parallax.org with the subject “Prison Book Order.”

Featured Books

This compendium of the core teachings of Thích Nhất Hạnh, based on a talk given at a prison, shows how mindfulness practice can cultivate freedom no matter where you are.

Just arrived! A new edition of Sea Libre Donde Esté is available now. This book is the Spanish translation of Be Free Where You Are.

Being Peace contains Thích Nhất Hạnh’s key practices and is filled with practical suggestions for how to create a more peaceful world “right in the moment we are alive.” Many of the hallmarks of Thích Nhất Hạnh appear here for the first time, in his trademark clear and steady style.
