Poem by Bill Menza

I heard a bird this morning.
I felt the sun today.
Tonight the moon.
Were they here all the time?
Was I forgetful?
Such a painful habit, this forgetfulness.
With so many joys and wonders,
and with death so near,
I promise to be present for them all.
