Taking care of one another and taking better care of our planet comes into focus on Earth Day, April 22nd. With Thay’s gentle reminder in the recent release How to Sit to see ourselves as part of the greater whole, we can experience Earth Day everyday:
“We are sitting on a planet, a very beautiful planet, which is revolving in the Milky Way galaxy. When we sit with that awareness, we can embrace the whole world, from the past to the future. When we sit like that our happiness is very great.”
Spring is here! New buds and crocuses have begun to emerge despite recent snowfalls in the east and relentless drought in the west. The promise of these tiny talismans reminds us of the restorative power of mindfulness practice.
Thich Nhat Hanh has said, “When you sit, you are like a gardener going back to take care of his or her garden. All the plants and animals in the garden benefit from the gardener’s return. They are so happy to have the gardener back.
After a long time in the works and a few Zen detours, we are delighted to give you a beautiful, user-friendly—new website!
We invite you to celebrate our fresh online presence, browse our catalog of books on mindful living, connect with Thich Nhat Hanh and the Plum Village community, find inspiring gifts, discover new authors, and save with a 25% discount on all Parallax Press books from Feb. 18th-25th.

Breathe, smile, and share the word!
As we move forward into the New Year, we have refreshed, revised and re-released two important books of Thich Nhat Hanh’s teachings this season. Each title offers readers tools to bring our whole selves and attention to the full experience of the present.
Both, ancient and modern day Zen practices are illustrated by each of these teachers that we may not have even heard of, but as Thich Nhat Hanh points out, ”If you practice to live more fully and happily in the present moment, then you are a student of.”
The air is cooling, the leaves are falling, and the nights are longer. Celebrations of gratitude are the order of the season. In appreciation of our readers, we are having a one week sale of books and calendars purchased directly, either through our website or by calling 1-800-863-5290.Beginning, Friday, November 22, and running through Friday, November 29, direct orders for books published by Parallax and all 2014 calendars will automatically get 30% off. No discount code or special order information is required.
Happy fall! As kids, and adults, head back to school, we are pleased to announce our wonderful new books for educators and those who work with children to develop and create learning environments. Everybody Present, is a guidebook that seeks to create a new kind of culture in our schools: one that counters stress and facilitates learning. The book is designed for new and experienced teachers, who want to establish and expand their own mindfulness practice and experience more meaningful educational relationships.
Recently Glen Schneider stopped by to visit the Parallax office in preparation for the release of his soon-to-be book. Naturally, we got on to the subject of the Ten Breaths practice and how with just a few breaths, profound and clear moments can unfold into a whole symphony of experience. By noticing our surroundings and taking a moment to gather our senses to see what follows after our first glance, we can experience life in its fullness.
With renewed intention for deepening our mindfulness practice here is a selection books that we think will be helpful guides throughout the year. The first US book by one of Germany’s most beloved mindfulness teachers reminds us that it just takes a few “small bites” to bring mindfulness practice into our daily lives, while one of America’s most practical and enduring meditation teachers shares ten proven steps to increase joy and enrichment.
