The Noble Path is the path that will bring us to happiness, the path of transforming our difficulties and suffering. There’s a new need for a global ethic. The world in which we live is going on a new path called globalization. Everything is being done to globalize life. So there’s a lot of change going on and the emergence of a new global order. Economies are transforming and globalizing. Politics and education are being globalized. Therefore ethics and morality also need to be globalized. We need a new ethics, a new morality for the whole of humanity. Up to now we’ve had many different cultures and nations, each with their own values, ways of behaving, and criteria for conduct. But sometimes the ways of one nation or culture may shock the people of another. So now we’re trying to find a kind of global ethic that everybody can accept and consider the basis for happiness, for mutual respect, and for what is deeply ethical. So a new global order calls for a new global ethic.
